Legal Counsel, International Sports, Dubai

Every now and then, and unique role comes up in the Middle East, and the nature of the client, and the candidate they seek, is a little bit different to mainstream requirements.

We have partnered exclusively with the International Cricket Council (ICC), whose global headquarters is in Dubai, to help find them a new Legal Counsel.

CLIENT: The ICC is the global governing body for the sport, which administers all aspects of international cricket.

ROLE: The role will report to the ICC's Senior Legal Counsel - Commercial. You'll be responsible for assisting with the legal department's commercial work, though the successful candidate will be required to assist with other areas of the legal department's activities based on the overall requirements of the organisation.

Example work will include drafting and negotiating commercial rights contracts, tenders, sponsorships, licencing, media, and digital. The work will additionally include IP, portfolio management and protection and TMT. The small nature of the legal department, and the global nature of the role and reach means that a wide variety of other work can, and will of course come across your desk.

CANDIDATE: There are some key criteria to be taken into consideration:

* A common law qualification is essential, as well as perfect working English.
* You'll need at least 4+ PQE and a ceiling guideline (given it is a Legal Counsel role) is probably around 7 PQE.
* Important that you've had at least some exposure to working with, or within in an in-house legal department.
* Broad commercial contracts experience of international standard work, including within the sports and / or media world.
* High level knowledge across IP and TMT.
* It's not essential that you love cricket, but that's going to be a major pull factor if you do!
