Leading children's charity requires an additional lawyer to join the team. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will support the charity by providing expert legal advice with a focus on the following core areas: (i) drafting, negotiating and advising on key contracts including with public authorities, commercial suppliers, strategic partners and donors; (ii) advice and support on issues relating to data protection, intellectual property, fundraising law and regulation, charity law, commercial litigation, property and legacies; (iii) support with the charity's governance and related legal and regulatory compliance; (iv) the resolution of disputes and complaints. As part of small team, you may be required to take responsibility for other areas of legal advice.

 

Key duties

  • Provide expert legal advice and support in the key areas set out in the Job Purpose to a wide range of the charity's stakeholders, from the Board of Trustees and the Corporate Leadership
  • Team to junior team members;
  • Support the legal administration of the charity and its subsidiaries;
  • Monitor trends and issues in the development of applicable law, regulation and policy; draft related legal updates for colleagues;
  • Assess and advise on the mitigation of legal risk in given cases as well as those resulting from changes to law, regulation or other external factors;
  • Instruct and liaise with external lawyers - paid and pro bono;
  • Undertake legal research and update internal know-how;
  • Develop and maintain a legal precedent bank and key guidance notes;
  • Create and implement legal policies and processes; contribute to relevant non-legal policies;
  • Enhance the knowledge of colleagues in legal and compliance matters including by the development and delivery of training;
  • Build and maintain trust, credibility and strong relationships with key internal stakeholders;
  • Participate in relevant project teams, to ensure that project objectives can be delivered effectively and on time;
  • Maintain professional standards within the organisation in compliance with current legislation and the charity's aims, objectives and values.
