This is a junior-to-mid-level in house legal role for a qualified lawyer with a general commercial skill set.

Client Details

Our Client is a listed multinational energy business with offices and sites throughout the uk and the rest of the world

Description

Legal Counsel could become involved in work in any of the following areas:

Operations (power generation, ancillary services, health and safety, treasury, property and procurement)

Negotiating and drafting a wide range of contracts such as procurement contracts for equipment, outage services and other matters relating to the operations of the generation assets, financing agreements, property documentation and ancillary services contracts.

Commercial and Customers

Supporting tenders, customer supply contracts, third party intermediary contracts, agreements related to the electric vehicle business, commodity trading agreements, PPAs, renewables certificates, biomass sale and purchase agreements and logistics contracts.

General ad hoc in house work

Legal Counsel will also advise on a range of operational matters, such as health and safety, environmental, planning, property, regulatory matters and competition law, and be required to advise and assist with disputes when required.

NB: This is a development role. Experience in all of these areas from a lawyer with the PQE which this role is roughly targeted at would be extremely unlikely. Experience and expertise in or more of the areas referred to above would be likely to be enough to be considered for this role.

Profile

The successful candidate will be a lawyer, qualified in the UK or another common law jurisdiction (please note, sponsorship is not on offer for this position).

The role holder will

  • Be likely to have between 2 and 5 years of PQE (which is where the role has been bench marked in terms of salary and responsibilities)
  • Have relevant legal professional qualifications and experience working in a corporate/commercial environment, ideally in-house.

Energy market experience is preferred but not essential. Given the broad nature of the role, experience in any commercial legal discipline will be considered.

Please note, the organisation can offer multiple working locations in the UK including London, Northampton and potentially Yorkshire (although the majority of the Legal Teams sits in London and Northampton). There is also a hybrid working policy which is adhered to across the business. The mantra for the legal team is that work is about output, not presenteeism or location.
