Recoveries Claims Handler or Paralegal - The marine, aviation and transport team of this leading 'top tier' law firm is looking for a claims handler or paralegal to handle a pre-litigated caseload of subrogated claims for a number of global marine cargo and aviation clients. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience in 'big ticket' commercial insurance work working for a range of global clients.

  • Job Title: Claims Handler / Paralegal

  • Salary: £20,000 - £24,000
  • Reports to: Head of Marine Claims
  • Previous Experience: Broad range of experience considered including general recoveries and commercial insurance and subrogated recoveries. Hiring managers will also consider those with MOJ and OIC Portal experience as well as other areas of claims handling.

Marine and cargo - an exciting and challenging role

Our client has developed a highly specialised pre-litigation team handling highly complex subrogated recovery work for some of the largest global marine, aviation and transportation companies. Matters might include:

  • Shipping accidents at sea and dry dock - the team are involved in some of the largest shipping collisions and dry dock accidents.
  • Cargo damage - When shipping containers and / or their contents are damaged by collision, fire or some other occurrence, our client's team will investigate and assess the claim.
  • Cargo theft - Sometimes goods and valuable cargo can go missing in transit prompting detailed investigations and analysis of evidence.
  • Piracy - Some of the most high-profile cases have come as a result of cargo ships coming under attack from armed pirates. This is unique work requiring specialist skills and keen attention to detail.

Supervision and training from highly experienced professionals

Whilst previous experience in commercial insurance and subrogated recoveries would be ideal, candidates will also experience excellent training from some of the leading experts in this sector. The role affords candidates exceptional transferable skills and access to quality challenging work.

Ideal candidates

Recoveries experience would be ideal. However, the hiring managers are prepared to look more broadly. If you have previous claims handling experience such as MOJ or OIC Portal or experience of other areas such as Plevin cases, we would like to hear from you.

  • Strong academic background;
