Join a leading global pharmaceutical manufacturing company in the role of a Data Protection Officer. This role will set the strategic direction, main priorities, and oversee the legal and compliance of data privacy across the UK and Ireland.

Their head office is based in Bracknell with hybrid work afforded.

Reporting into the Head of Legal and Compliance, key responsibilities will include:

  • Set the strategy for the UK&I data protection compliance programme with regular updates to the relevant compliance committees.
  • Take responsibility for management of the data privacy compliance and governance.
  • Maintain a high profile of data protection compliance and understanding across all areas of the business.
  • Act as legal business partner to the whole UK and Ireland organisation, providing expert legal support and advice on a range of data protection related matters.
  • Provide regular updates and communication on data privacy to leadership teams and compliance committees.
  • Act as a point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders with respect to privacy matters.
  • Provide expert advice and legal support to management as well as to all business functions, taking into account the risk associated with the relevant data processing operations.
  • Liaise with the wider European DPO network to ensure alignment in strategy and interpretation of data protection and implementation of global tools and processes.
  • Raising awareness of data privacy and embedding a culture of accountability for data privacy compliance.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • England & Wales qualified lawyer with 5+PQE gained in private practice or within an in-house environment (however all candidates will be considered on merit).
  • Ability to implement privacy by design across the business demonstrating a clear understanding of how entities and business functions are impacted by data protection laws and standards.
  • Well organised, structured, dynamic and self-motivated.
  • Knowledge of FMCG/the pharmaceutical or life sciences would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Knowledge of data protection within the context of digital channels and social media.
  • The ability to deliver pragmatic solutions and high-quality work under pressure.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, ability to interact with all levels in the organisation.
