We have a unique opportunity for a commercially focused legal professional with a passion for people management to lead and develop our legal team of Paralegals and Trainee Solicitors. We are looking for someone preferably with a commercial or tax law background who enjoys managing people and overseeing in-house legal work.
Main Purpose
Kirby & Haslam provide compliance advice on government legislation and tax incentives within the accountancy/ professional services sectors. Our teams of paralegals, report writers and tax specialist have built a reputation for innovation, technical prowess and reliable advice and support.
We are looking for someone to strengthen our legal department by providing guidance and leadership to the team in order to support the company’s goals and ambitions. The role will be responsible for the legal aspects of the interpretation of government legislation and subsequent client advice, as well as providing commercial legal advice to the Group businesses.
Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility to lead and manage the legal team including paralegals and trainee solicitors.
- Provide accurate, relevant and timely advice to the legal team and the wider business leads within the group.
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
- Designing and delivering legal training to the team, supporting the team through legal apprenticeships and qualifying work experience/ SQE through coaching, feedback and on the job training
- Creating, developing, and maintaining templates, precedents, reports, and guidance notes for our compliance based products.
- Working proactively and collaboratively with our business development teams to enhance client guidance and advice.
- Keeping abreast of changes to finance-related government legislation, assimilating knowledge in order to provide up to date advice both internally and to our clients.
- Developing content for our professional services clients including marketing collateral such as email bulletins, blogs and website updates on news and changes within the legislation.
- Support the Senior paralegal with the organisation of the team’s deadlines and targets ensuring accuracy and quality of legal advice is upheld.
- Developing a high-performing, highly skilled and resilient team through hiring diverse talent, providing tailored performance management, identifying training and development opportunities, and leading the way through coaching and feedback
Requirements
- A qualified solicitor (England and Wales) with at least 5 years post-qualification experience
- A passion for training and developing an ambitious team

This role can be flexible and performed remotely with some travel to Norwich to be agreed.
