This prestigious offshore law firm is looking for an experienced commercial litigation lawyer to join its thriving BVI office. You will become part of a small, highly respected team, advising an international client base on a broad range of complex commercial, insolvency and financial services disputes. Joining as an experienced lawyer, you will be encouraged to take a lead role on matters, assist in the development of more junior colleagues, and play a full part in client management and marketing efforts. It is perhaps the ideal opportunity for someone with the drive and ambition to progress their career, but who also craves a complete change of lifestyle outside of the office.

British Virgin Islands

For some, the BVI is the pick of the Caribbean. A mountainous, rain-forested interior surrounded by picture-postcard bays, it is probably not far from the idyllic image that might cross your mind when you ponder whether there is ‘more to life’. It’s not for everyone. You will need to be comfortable with a slower pace, you will see its remoteness as a gift rather than an inconvenience, and you will be the sort of person who gets more out of sailing, diving, or relaxing on the beach than you do from the buzz of city life. If that’s you, you will love it here. Not to mention that the work, much of it emanating out of China/Asia, is some of the most interesting and challenging in the sector.

Process

Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 4-6 months later. Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas and relocation, including temporary accommodation on arrival.

Package

Salary likely to be in the range of USD150k-USD200k with a low tax-rate (c8%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).

Requirements

To secure a work permit in the BVI you will need to be admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister in England & Wales. This role is likely to suit someone with at least 3 years’ PQE (but more senior associates are certainly encouraged to apply). You will need experience of complex commercial disputes from a good commercial/chancery chambers or UK/equivalent law firm.

Origin Legal International

Our team has 25 years’ experience of helping lawyers to make international and offshore moves. If you would like to find out more about this role or chat about an overseas move in general, please get in touch.
