Our client, a UK law firm based in stunning offices, currently has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join them on a 12-month fixed term contract basis. The Financial Controller will be responsible for planning, managing and delivering the firm's financial management, accounting and reporting.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Financial Management:

Manage, guide and develop the reporting, cashiering and revenue control teams (3 direct reports and 17 indirect reports)Ensure that appropriate financial controls and policies are in place and are being adhered to.Maintain the firm's compliance with applicable HMRC legislation and Solicitors' Accounts Rules Identify and address financial risks and opportunities.Manage lock up by driving activity on WIP management, billing and collection.Meet with budget holders in order to prepare annual budgets and to review and analyse income and expenditure.Maintain proper accounting records.Review and validate office and client payments.Manage the year-end financial and SAR compliance audits.

Reporting:

Review and publish monthly management accounts and associated reports within agreed timescales.Review and publish cashflow and P&L forecasts.Production and distribution of other ad hoc management information Conduct profitability analysis at team, client, matter and partner level.Analyse and model new initiatives and scenarios Review and publish the annual statutory accounts and corporation tax returns.Review and provide financial information for legal press surveys, new business pitches, panel reviews and other marketing purposes.Oversee all other internal and external reporting delivered by the reporting team.

Development:

Design and deliver best practice training to fee earners (including partners)Build relationships with key stakeholders across the business.Work closely with the Financial Systems Manager, the IT department and other support departments to design and deliver solutions, automating where possible.Play an active role in the firm's practice management system replacement project.Continually appraise existing systems and processes and lead on any change initiatives required.Review and update policies and guidance notes

Additional Duties:

Deputise for the Head of Finance when necessary.Assist the Head of Finance on ad hoc commercial and strategic analysis and reporting.Any other duties defined by Head of Finance

The ideal candidate for this Financial Controller / Senior Finance Manager role will be qualified or part-qualified and have significant previous finance/accounts experience from a law firm. Extensive knowledge of payroll and VAT reporting is essential and a sound working knowledge of the SRA Accounts Rules is required. You must have experience of working in an international environment and be able to work autonomously and with minimal supervision.
