HSE Criminal Regulatory Solicitor or Legal Executive - London

Regulatory Solicitor / Associate or Legal Executive - This expanding team deals with a broad range of matters from motor crime to healthcare regulatory and environmental matters to corporate manslaughter. The team is ideally looking for someone with around 1 PQE or more in crime and / or regulatory work. Perhaps you are looking for a new opportunity in a dynamic and exciting team and in a client-facing role where you can develop your experience in a dynamic and growing department.   • Reports to: Partner
  • Previous experience: Around 1 PQE or more in criminal and / or HSE regulatory. The team handle health and safety matters within various sectors including nursing and care, the environmental sector as well as advising on motor crime cases and undertaking compliance audits. If you have any experience in these sectors or transferable skills, we would like to hear from you.

You will certainly have the opportunity to have an impact in the team and develop the technical knowledge and aspects of the role. The team is looking for someone with the right attitude who they can nurture and develop and who will take on more and more responsibility as their experience increases.

The nature of the work can involve everything from inquests and criminal hearings to advising clients on compliance and regulatory strategy. Whilst this role is aimed at candidates who are more towards the start of their regulatory career, the aim is to develop you as soon as possible.

Regulatory work - a snapshot of what the role will involve

This is an opportunity for a fee earner with anything from roughly 1 PQE or above. Ideally, candidates will already have some exposure to regulatory work and be looking to build on that experience. Although, we are interested in hearing from those with transferable skill sets. In particular, the successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Work with and support more experienced lawyers;
  • Review and analyse prosecution evidence and considering implications for client;
  • Review client evidence and provide summary for experienced solicitors including Partners;
  • Liaise with Court and the Coroner's Office as well as CQC, Police and Health and Safety Executive as well as any other relevant regulator;
  • Instruct experts where necessary and summarise expert evidence;
  • Draft written submissions';
  • Liaising with Insured re Prosecution's case and disclosure required;
  • Organising and attending conferences & meetings, drafting note of discussion and following agreed strategy following lead lawyer's strategy;
  • Attend interviews under caution;
  • Instruct counsel and attend trials and inquests;
  • Arrange meetings and conferences as well as site visits and meetings with experts;
  • General chasing of transcripts and disclosure as well as collating evidence;
  • Review of medical records, post mortem reports and other relevant evidence including CCTV footage;
  • Investigative research into insured such as analysing corporate structure, their procedures, risk assessment process and any other relevant information;
  • Preparation and serving of bundles;
  • General legal research.
