Senior Employment Solicitor/Partner
Location : Manchester, England, United Kingdom (hybrid or office-based)
Salary : £85K to £100K+ and benefits depending on experience
Watershed is a third generation, Solicitors Regulation Authority regulated, family-owned and managed employment law firm. We work with organisations in a range of sectors, from large household names to small and medium sized entities.

Our work involves:
- Advising commercial clients on both routine and complex matters covering all aspects of employment law.
- Representing clients in the employment and employment appeal tribunals.
- Advising on:
- Managing and contributing to larger scale projects such as changing terms and conditions.
- Collective redundancies.
- Collective bargaining.
- Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) (TUPE). - Undertaking investigations.
- Chairing hearings.
- Delivering training on employment law and managing people.

We are looking for people who are passionate about employment law, take pride in their work, and want to work exclusively with ‘respondent’ clients. You will be able to develop long-lasting and trusting relationships with existing clients and help us grow and develop our business, attracting new clients. You will have at least eight years’ experience in UK employment law, including advising ‘respondent’ clients.
This position involves occasional travel to client sites and employment tribunals throughout the UK, when required. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and have a full driving licence. Our head office is in Manchester, England, and we offer hybrid or office-based work.
The position:
Watershed is looking for an experienced Employment Solicitor/Partner:
- to help grow and develop our services in employment law, maximising opportunities and developing long-term fruitful relationships with both new and existing clients
- to provide daily advice on a wide range of both routine and complex matters that can be contentious or non-contentious, covering all aspects of employment law
- to represent clients at the employment tribunal and the employment appeal tribunal, ideally doing any advocacy
- to help clients transform their business by advising on and often participating in complex collective redundancies, collective bargaining, large-scale changes to terms and conditions, and TUPE
- to work on and manage a range of client projects and deal with their day-to-day employment matters
- to build and sustain relationships, develop new accounts, and provide innovative solutions, while offering clients new ideas about employment law approaches and methodology.
About you
We are seeking solicitors with:
- Excellent technical competence in employment law, with a track record of working with large private sector businesses.
- Eight or more years’ PQE in a fees-based professional firm.
- Up to date knowledge of modern working practices, while understanding the day-to-day pressures busy managers experience.
- A personable and professional demeanour, with the ability and drive to develop new business in a competitive industry.
- Capability to build and maintain relationships with demanding clients.
- Confident communication skills, with the experience needed to present and provide a range of services and products that match client needs.
- The gravitas required to credibly advise senior stakeholders within large organisations.
- Commercial astuteness, with an unqualified desire to build long-term relationships.
