This large offshore law firm has a reputation for advising its client base on some of the largest and most complex litigation in the market. The practice spans broad commercial disputes, banking litigation and contentious financial services work, always international, with a significant flow of instructions from the Chinese and wider Asian markets. Joining as a mid-senior level Associate, you will work closely with Partners, but you will also have plenty of scope for taking a lead on matters. It is an ideal environment for someone who relishes the opportunity to get ‘hands-on’ and who enjoys the client-facing side of legal work.
British Virgin Islands
For some, the BVI is the pick of the Caribbean. A mountainous, rain-forested interior surrounded by picture-postcard bays, it is probably not far from the idyllic image that might cross your mind when you ponder whether there is ‘more to life’. It’s not for everyone. You will need to be comfortable with a slower pace, you will see its remoteness as a gift rather than an inconvenience, and you will be the sort of person who gets more out of sailing, diving, or relaxing on the beach than you do from the buzz of city life. If that’s you, you will love it here. Not to mention that the work, much of it emanating out of China/Asia, is some of the most interesting and challenging in the sector.
Process
Interviews will take place by videoconference with start dates typically around 4-6 months later. Our clients provide comprehensive assistance with visas and relocation, including temporary accommodation on arrival.
Package
Attractive salary with a low tax rate (c8%). Comprehensive benefits, bonus, and relocation package (flights + temporary accommodation on arrival + expenses allowance).
Requirements
To secure a work permit in the BVI you will need to be admitted as a Solicitor or Barrister in the UK. This role is likely to suit someone with at least 4 or 5 years’ PQE (although all with an appropriate skillset are encouraged to apply). You will need experience of complex commercial disputes from a good commercial/chancery chambers or UK/equivalent law firm.
Origin Legal International
Our team has 25 years’ experience of helping lawyers to make international and offshore moves. If you would like to find out more about this role or chat about an overseas move in general, please get in touch.
