Your new company

We are delighted to be representing a top FTSE 100 Company in their search for an ambitious Commercial Litigation Solicitor to join their team in Belfast. This is a very broad and varied role which will see you work on a wide variety of high value (typically £1m-£1bn) and sometimes ground breaking disputes including contractual disputes, economic torts, fraud, competition & regulatory cases and consumer rights issues. This is a supportive, friendly team and you will work closely with both internal stakeholders and external panel firms.

Your new role

  • In your new role you will build and maintain relationships with business stakeholders, advising on the impact of business decisions, identifying legal constraints and recommending business enabling solutions which minimise risk and support company in achieving its strategy.
  • Establish and maintain commercial relationships with company customers, distributors and partners and represents the company in customer-facing commercial negotiations.
  • Develop commercial strategies and propositions with management including business case input and the review and drafting of contract terms;
  • Monitor legal developments which may affect the company, advising stakeholders of potential impacts and providing recommendations to minimise future risk.
  • Provide accurate and timely legal advice, analysis and support based on a combined understanding of company commercial strategy the legal environment, acting as a single point of contact for an assigned topic/area of the business where relevant.
  • Advise on litigation risk to help the business decide on the right strategy, minimise company exposure and mitigate or avoid disputes.
  • Procure and manage external legal support where necessary, including assessing, communicating and helping to implement external advice, and all aspects of managing a costs budget.
  • Manage the procedural aspects of litigation in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules, including coordination of witnesses.
  • Assist (with external support as required) internal corporate investigations, often with a regulatory, sanctions compliance or criminal law context, including engaging directly with senior stakeholders.


What you'll need to succeed

  • You will be a qualified solicitor or barrister practising in either Northern Ireland, England & Wales, Republic of Ireland, or non-UK equivalent practising rights.
  • Practical experience in commercial litigation as a minimum - ideally in relation to complex, larger value commercial matters exceeding £1m potential liability, but experience in handling multiple commercial cases as an alternative.
  • Confidence and ability to engage with stakeholders at a very senior level.
  • Strong ability to use initiative, organisation, and work independently - much of the work will be varied/atypical, without set processes. The role requires common sense, an ability to get to grips with commercial dynamics in unfamiliar subject-matter and to juggle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to take ownership of matters and work collaboratively with business colleagues, showing strong communication and project management skills.
