Reputable Large Utility Business in UK looking for Infrastructure Lawyer (Hybrid Working)

Your new role
To provide high quality infrastructure development, structuring and consenting legal services to the Environment & Planning, Regulatory, and Capital Delivery function through:

  • providing day-to-day support for the Programme activities and working with the wider legal team, external legal advisers, and individuals at all levels across the programme delivery team
  • advising on the full regime of consenting regulations and practical planning issues, including acting as guardian of relevant legal policies;
  • advising the company on the legal ramifications and structuring of a wide range of the significant and complex infrastructure projects, including often complex and expansive engineering and construction arrangements and diverse projects, transactions and contracts (working with the Commercial Legal team);
  • focussing on the full remit of regulatory engagement required to progress and deliver all aspects of infrastructure projects;
  • supporting the senior specialist Environment & Planning Solicitor on these complex infrastructure and capital projects, and in advising on such technically challenging and highly specialist projects, working with, advising and supporting project teams and operational functions;
  • supporting and liaising with the Commercial and the Property legal teams (internal and external) on the legal ramifications and structuring of a wide range of project arrangements, land access issues, and diverse capital /commercial projects, transactions and contracts related to the Programme and similar significant infrastructure projects.


What you'll need to succeed

  • UK qualified Solicitor or Barrister at least 5 years PQE or above
  • Expert in their field and an acknowledged authority; expected to have a good grounding in infrastructure, planning, environment, and related regulatory law
  • Candidate with NSIP and DCO experience will be highly preferred
  • Knowledge of statutory and environmental regulations within which the Company operates
  • Expert knowledge of law and legal research techniques, contract drafting and interpretation
  • Knowledge of the development consent order process
  • Self-starter with ability to work as part of a team and to work proactively across and with a number of other functions
  • An understanding and recent experience of the UK utilities industry and its regulatory and quasi-regulatory obligations (working on any side of relevant transactions) would be very useful.
