Assistant Chief Legal Officer required to join a large, forward thinking Local Authority in the home counties. My client is looking for an experienced Solicitor or Barrister, with a background in planning or property law to join their dynamic Legal Services team on a full-time basis.

As Assistant Chief Legal Officer, you will be responsible for supporting the continued development of the Environment and Property teams as well as holding responsibility for supporting partnering initiatives to enable sustainable and effective legal services for local authorities within the region.

Key responsibilities of the Assistant Chief Legal Officer

  • Shape the development of the Environment & Property Group through working with inhouse lawyers, council officers and external partners
  • As a member of the management team, contribute to the overall strategic management of the team in line with the vision of the authority
  • Steer high profile matters involving the authority or other client within the remit of the Environment and Property team
  • Deputise for the Director of Law & Governance as the Council's Monitoring Officer

Required experience of the Assistant Chief Legal Officer

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister, with experience gained in managing and motivating staff within a legal service
  • Experience in managing the delivery of legal services within a large complex organisation and ideally within a multiple client scenario / shared service
  • Experience of supporting complex legal projects and providing high level professional advice
